I like lamb with meringue.
I am sure many of us in the gay community have watched the movie Priscilla Queen of the Desert and resisted the line “All this country needs is another cock in a frock on a rock”
This feel good move tracks your oh so extravagant transvestites that get into a bus, drink, smoke and dress in drag while trailing across the desert in a bus that they are trying to paint pink. They go through emotions, losses, turmoil’s and secretes get revealed and like any other feel good movie it’s a happy ever after........ Well almost.
If all of us could get in a bus, paint it pink and dress in drag, get beat up a few times , only then life, yes - would be great and as unrealistic as it may seem it would be just that, it would be unrealistic. Fact of the matter is this is not the case. South Africa belies the “you have freedom of choice and speech”. We are a rainbow nation that does not judge; well at times it is as surreal as getting in a pink bus and driving through the desert.
I have experienced times whilst walking with my girlfriend in a mall holding her hand - those judgmental eyes boring into my back, oh I made as if I don't care. However, secretly it does affect me. It makes me want to grab her right then and there and rip her clothes off and show all the straight people what real passionate love making is about.
I can't allow these narrow minded people to have any control over my life. If I can parade around in Sandton City , on casual day wearing granny pink pj's (yes I really did) and blue slippers and no one even noticed , then why would I pay any attention to the judgmental looks and derogatory smirks around me?
I am what I am and no one or nobody can change that. I would rather be myself and have everyone judging me than try to be someone other than myself so that I conform to what everyone thinks or believes is acceptable. I will maintain what I believe to be good for me!
So the next time you are walking in a mall hand in hand with your girlfriend or boyfriend and you get this horrified look, or people stare , just imagine their reactions if were to take your partners clothes off and shag them right there ???
Love is a beautiful thing and should not be defined with walls, fences or terms and conditions. Love is a free emotion. So feel free to love who you want and not who everyone else would have you love to make themselves feel ok!
